Elderly Devoted Dog and His Military Veteran Owner Passed Away Within Hours of Each Other

This story perfectly illustrates that the connection between an owner and their dog is an intangible bond

After receiving his first pancreatic cancer diagnosis, Daniel Hove, an Air Force veteran who became an assistant fire chief, had to spend a night in the hospital. During his stay, his family and friends provided him with support, and his 11-year-old dog, Gunnar, remained by his side for most of the time.

Unfortunately, Hove had a difficult time in his last years due to his cancer, and Gunnar remained by his side throughout it all. Hove’s daughter, Heather Nicoletti, stated that they were more than just best friends; they were family. Nicoletti also mentioned that Gunnar became ill during Hove’s final days.

Gunnar was unconscious one day and was immediately rushed to the vet. Unfortunately, he died there. The dog was also unresponsive when Hove was present. The veteran died an hour and a half later which was strange.

Nicoletti expressed her sadness after losing her dad but was grateful that Hove did not have to suffer the loss of his best friend. She also mentioned that Gunnar was devastated because of her dad’s sickness. Rest in peace Hove and Gunnar.
