Zuky was one of 23 dogs who were saved from horrendous conditions at a residence in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
The animal rescue team from the Humane Society of the United States states that the conditions were among the most dirty and unsanitary they have ever encountered.
Zuky was found in a poorly lit room with a strong ammonia smell, and surrounded by urine and feces. She was extremely thin, dirty, and had severely tangled fur.
“When we first entered the room, three of them came to me to escape from the room,” said rescuer Felipe Marquez of Humane Society International.
When they first encountered Zuky, she was highly nervous and shy. As soon as they picked her up, however, she became at ease and more at ease, taking pleasure in the safety of someone’s arms and a sense of security that she had never experienced before.
Once Zuky was out of harm’s way, the rescue team promptly began her remarkable transformation. She received a haircut and a much-needed bath, as well as appropriate medical treatment.
Zuky’s current state is a far cry from the dog who was found living in squalor. Her transformation was so incredible that it’s hard to believe it’s the same dog. She has since been adopted by a loving family who are giving her all the care and attention she deserves.
The rest of the dogs were transported to a shelter temporarily and are now safe under the care of HSUS. They will also undergo the same process as Zuky did, including receiving medical attention, haircuts, and baths, before they are ready to be adopted.
Marquez said, “The most fulfilling aspect of this job is witnessing their happiness and seeing them improve, which provides them with a new life, a second chance.”
