It is difficult to fathom that dogfighting is still being practiced, but there are still several significant operations that engage in this cruel activity.
One such operation was a dogfighting ring in South Carolina that has since been shut down, and 274 dogs were rescued from its clutches.
Olivia, a pit bull, was one of the dogs saved from the dogfighting operation. Following her rescue, she was taken in by the Humane Society of the United States. Her rescuers were aware that she had endured more trauma than any dog should ever have to endure.
In a YouTube post, the Humane Society remarked that it was evident that Olivia had been involved in at least two fights before they arrived at the scene.
The Humane Society stated, “The trauma that Olivia had to endure, both physically and emotionally, is unimaginable. Nevertheless, she is gradually opening up and relearning to trust humans.”
Despite being in a dire state when they found her, she began to recover immediately. Not only did her physical scars start to fade away, but she also began to heal emotionally from her experiences as a fighting dog.
Olivia was initially timid, and it took some time for her to warm up to people. With the loving care of her rescuers, she began to accept affection and it seems like she is prepared to receive even more.
According to the Humane Society, her progress may be gradual, but it is steady. They are optimistic that Olivia has a promising future ahead of her.
