Phoenix, despite his unconventional appearance, is just like any other dog. Unfortunately, many people are frightened by his appearance and judge him for it.
Despite this, Phoenix desires the same love and affection as any other dog, and hopes to find someone who recognizes that true charm goes beyond mere looks.
This incredibly wonderful dog was abandoned and left to fend for himself for a whole year. Despite scavenging for his own food, he received no sympathy from people who dismissed him as “freakish” or “scary.”
Sadly, nobody was willing to give him a chance, but fortunately, there are still people in the world who can look beyond appearances and appreciate true beauty from within.
When Skiatook Paws & Claws Pet Rescue in Oklahoma heard about Phoenix’s situation, they were immediately moved to help him. Despite his intimidating appearance, they were undaunted and only concerned with rescuing the dog.
Upon taking in Phoenix, the rescue was able to deduce that he had once had an owner. Regrettably, this also meant that his previous owner had neglected him, allowing him to become homeless and roam the streets.
“He was skin and bones, you could see all of his ribs,” recounted Carisa Ducharne of Skiatook Paws & Claws. “He was so inflamed that he couldn’t even close his eyes, and his face was swollen and inflamed.”
Although the rescue was uncertain about how Phoenix had come to look the way he did, they were pleased to discover that he had a gentle disposition and was not afraid of humans. This suggested that his past struggles had not dampened his kind and loving nature in any way.
Skiatook Paws & Claws regularly shares updates on Phoenix’s journey, and as a result, he has gained a great deal of love and support from fans who are eager to donate towards his medical care.
Family Pet Medicine, which has been instrumental in Phoenix’s treatment, believes that he may be suffering from an autoimmune disease, although they have not yet been able to identify which one. Fortunately, Phoenix has made significant progress since his rescue.
“He has been getting better and better each day,” Ducharne remarked. “While I wouldn’t call his condition intentional harm, neglect is a form of abuse, and he was certainly neglected.”
Many people have contacted the shelter inquiring about Phoenix, and there have been numerous offers to adopt him.
Although the rescue is grateful for the outpouring of support and love for Phoenix, they have made it clear that he will only be available for adoption once he has fully recovered and is prepared for a permanent home.
