At around 12 years of age, King was a difficult dog to place for Marley’s Mutts, a non-profit organization that rescues all breeds of dogs in Kern County, California, due to his nondescript brown coat and the fact that he was missing his front right leg. Despite his difficult past of being abandoned and left to fend for himself on the streets, the rescuers were determined to find King a special home where he could thrive.
Rocky Kanaka, a TV personality, has a special affection for dogs that are similar to King. He showcases these dogs on his television program called Dog’s Day Out in order to help them find homes.
King was a suitable candidate for Kanaka to feature on his program since no adoption applications had been submitted for King at the local shelter for months. King, despite being a senior with only three legs, deserved to be pampered and find a forever home!
As a result, Kanaka took King to the local pet store, all while filming the encounter. Upon entering the store, Kanaka made it clear to King that he could take anything he touched in the store, with the exception of the hamsters.
Then, Kanaka guided the large dog through the store and allowed King to explore. Starting in the toy section, Rocky looked unsure, but Kanaka quickly came to the rescue.
By offering the brown dog a fluffy dinosaur, King sniffed it gently, and the television host counted the timid approach as a touch. The first item placed in the shopping cart was the dinosaur. King quickly started touching all sorts of items, from dog treats to a cat tree—and yes, Kanaka kept his word. King may very well be the first dog to own a cat tree.
Following King’s segment on Dog’s Day Out, an application for his adoption was received and accepted. A lady had viewed the episode and become enamored with him. To commemorate King’s adoption, Kanaka decided to take him out for a final shopping spree before he went to his new residence.
