Observing an elderly pet being abandoned at a shelter is a heart-wrenching experience. Though there are numerous reasons why an individual may no longer be able to care for an older dog or cat, it is distressing to recognize that the prospects of the senior animal finding a new permanent home are meager.
All animals should have a secure and protected dwelling to spend their golden years, but unfortunately, that is not always the case. When a pair of senior cats who were inseparable was surrendered to Anne Arundel County Animal Control in Maryland, their fate appeared bleak.
The two feline companions, 11-year-old Mojo and 16-year-old Max, were separated as per the shelter’s protocol, and one can imagine that they began to miss each other instantly as they encountered their new surroundings frightened and alone.
Approximately one month after Mojo was adopted by a compassionate woman, she couldn’t help but worry about the future of Max, who remained at the shelter. As the holiday season approached, she made the decision to return to the shelter and adopt Max so that the two bonded senior cats could be reunited. The day after Christmas, she hurried to the shelter to bring Max home with her.
