This story is about Minerva Castellano, a 102-year-old woman who lives with her beloved parrot, Vitricio, in Córdoba, Colombia. The woman has requested assistance in getting back her parrot, which was confiscated by the police, as it has been living with her for over five decades.
The yellow-headed parrot has always reminded Minerva of her late husband, Miguel del Toro, who passed away over ten years ago. Since arriving at her home in 1970, the parrot has been her faithful companion and has witnessed the birth of nearly 50 great-grandchildren and dozens of Minerva’s children.
The elderly woman named Minerva Castellano was devastated when the police confiscated her pet parrot, Vitricio. The bird had been living with Minerva for five decades and was her beloved companion.
According to Minerva’s granddaughter, Eliana Guerrero, Vitricio was taken by the police to Montería City for medical treatment due to a problem with one of his wings. However, when Eliana arrived at the Terminal in Montería on November 2, the police informed her that the parrot was a protected bird and therefore, had to be taken from her.
However, despite the grandma’s explanation that Vitricio had been with her family for fifty years, the police still did not show any compassion. In a video shared online, the grandma is seen offering a banana to Vitricio but realizes that he is in a sad mood and not enjoying his favorite food.
Eliana further mentioned that they decided not to tell her grandma about Vitricio’s seizure by the police to protect her. Additionally, the parrot only eats when Minerva is with him as he is very fond of her, so they fear that he may pass away without her.
Eliana also mentioned that Vitricio, who was always allowed to roam free, has been a member of their family long before the laws were put in place prohibiting the keeping of such animals as pets. She simply wants to ensure that the police are aware of her grandmother’s situation. We all hope that Minerva will soon be reunited with Vitricio.
