The following video provides evidence that animals possess emotions similar to those experienced by humans. After the passing of a rescued donkey, a herd of donkeys expresses a touching farewell to their former companion.
Upon his rescue by the Stichting de Ezelshoeve in the Netherlands, Bram the donkey was in a frail state of health. However, the elderly animal was consistently provided with unconditional love and support from the people and other donkeys at the sanctuary.
During his time at the sanctuary, Bram developed strong relationships with fellow residents such as the dark brown donkey featured in the video, as well as the herd’s leader. In the footage, the donkeys are visibly saddened and vocalize mournful cries as they enter the yard to bid farewell to Bram. The herd’s leader appears to be in disbelief of Bram’s passing, attempting to wake him up by nipping at his belly. The scene is incredibly emotional and touching.
