Last year, when a young raccoon was in trouble, people quickly contacted Carrie Long, a wildlife rehabilitation expert.
The raccoon was only three weeks old and had been abandoned by its mother. During a heavy rainstorm, the poor animal was discovered barely clinging to life.
Long is in charge of Texas Fawn and Friends, a nonprofit organization that specializes in rescuing orphaned deer. In this particular case, she decided to take in the raccoon, whom she named Jasper.
In an interview, Long stated that “we weren’t certain he was going to survive.” Thanks to Long’s kindness, care, and treatment, Jasper is now thriving, and he is returning the favor for everything she has done for him. Despite being in good health and old enough to live on his own, Jasper continues to reside at the deer sanctuary.
Jasper is happy spending his time with around 75 deer that don’t have parents at Texas Fawn and Friends. However, there is a particular fawn that the beloved raccoon is especially fond of.
One fawn, named Hope, lost her mother when she was young, and Jasper takes care to make sure she never feels lonely. According to Long, Jasper adores Hope and eagerly shows his affection by licking and cuddling her whenever he sees her. It’s truly heartwarming.
The most special bond is shared by Jasper and Hope, and they set the pace for everything. Furthermore, Long notes, “He gets to see her every day.
She comes over in the evening and snuggles up beside him.
Their interaction is just amazing.”
The dedicated volunteers at Texas Fawn and Friends invest a great deal of energy and attention to assist the parentless fawns, whose numbers are projected to exceed 100 for the remainder of the year.
Long would have expected nothing less than to provide these fawns with the opportunity to thrive, and she concludes by stating, “It’s an incredibly fulfilling job.”
