You may say that adults are getting lots of headaches because of snowfall, but apparently, this rule doesn’t apply to pandas. After a heavy snowfall in the D.C. region, a family of giant pandas at the National Zoo were caught on camera enjoying themselves.
A snow day is loved by everyone. Although many animals such as dogs and horses enjoy the snow, none of them seem to love it as much as these cute pandas. Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, the giant pandas, were caught on camera playing in the snow like a bunch of kids in a now-viral YouTube video. They experience a moment of “pure panda bliss” as they roll and slide around in the snow. Meanwhile, the panda cub Xiao Qi Ji, who is experiencing his first snowfall, prefers to observe rather than walk on the large white blanket while the two adult pandas are having the time of their lives in the snow.
A video of a baby giant panda having fun in the snow at the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington, D.C. has gone viral on social media, with many users finding it adorable. The footage also showcases the cub’s growth over the past year. Xiao Qi Ji was born in August 2020 and experienced snow for the first time in January 2021 during a snowfall.
In the video, which was captured during a snowfall in January, the cub can be seen playing in the snow by rolling, shoving some snow in its face, and sliding down a hill. The Smithsonian Zoo shared the video on Facebook, writing, “New year, new Xiao Qi Ji! Our giant panda baby was a little hesitant when he first encountered snow in January 2021. This morning, the 16-month-old rolled around in the new snow and enjoyed the first snow day of the year. His belly-sliding skills are perfect.”
Xiao Qi Ji is a beloved attraction at the zoo and often features in the zoo’s video content. For instance, a few days before the snowstorm, the panda was seen on camera playing in one of the enclosure’s ponds. The zoo has compiled a list of its most popular videos to mark the end of the year, with Xiao Qi Ji’s sweet potato tasting adventure ranking as the ninth most popular moment of the year.
