Rescuers nurse emaciated pit bull back to health after being deserted.

It’s always heartbreaking when a dog is abandoned by its owner, especially when they are found in such a pitiful condition. Fortunately, kind-hearted individuals are always ready to step up and provide a helping hand to these vulnerable animals.

Such was the case with a pit bull that was recently discovered abandoned and in a severely malnourished state. But thanks to the efforts of rescuers, the dog, named Maggie, is now on the road to recovery.

Maggie was brought to the Orange County Animal Shelter in Virginia on July 29 after being found by a concerned citizen, WVIR reported. She was in a feeble state, weighing only 27 pounds, which is less than half of what a healthy weight for her breed should be.

On Friday, July 29, 2022, a statement was released by Orange County Virginia Animal Shelter.

According to the shelter’s director, Gina Jenkins, Maggie was in an almost lifeless condition, unable to move or stand, due to being abandoned. The dog was also suffering from demodectic mange, conjunctivitis, and was severely dehydrated and lethargic.

On Friday, July 29, 2022, a message was posted by the Orange County Virginia Animal Shelter.

Maggie is now under the care of professionals and is expected to make progress in her recovery, but due to her poor health, it won’t be an easy journey. According to reports, it will take a minimum of 3 to 4 months for her to recover, and there is a possibility that she may never fully regrow her fur.

Despite having a long way to go, the shelter’s Facebook post confirmed that Maggie’s condition was gradually improving. The shelter promised to keep everyone updated on her progress.

According to Gina Jenkins, Maggie’s disposition has improved, and she is now settling down and getting comfortable with food and blankets. After experiencing such brutality and neglect, it’s incredible what love, care, and nourishment can do for an animal. Maggie adores her blankets and enjoys cuddling up under them, Jenkins told WVIR. She is now 100% better.

This story about Maggie is heartbreaking, but we are grateful that she is now receiving the care she needs and on the road to recovery.

Please share this story and keep Maggie in your thoughts and prayers.
